Not at all – i love my job and I can do the arty stuff in my own time. A friend from school did Art and she finds it very hard to get work using her artistic skills – she has to do other jobs that dont involve art and are not that well paid. Very few artists make money out of their art.

I get a lot of satisfaction from finishing things/achieving goals (getting to a point when I can say it is done and move on to the next thing) – engineering projects have a specification, you know what is expected and you strive to achieve it. As long as have met these real expectations – you can say it is done. Art is very different – you have to decide when it is done and you only have yourself to decide whether it has met your expectations or not (and these often changes as you’re going through the process of creation). Somehow Art can be less satisfying then engineering even though you are also creating something.Hope that makes sense….
