Hmmm – I think the camera I’m currently working on for the International Space Station could well be the best – but it’s not finished yet so I can’t be sure!!!

Whilst at university we made a robot that navigated around a maze on the the floor, we worked really hard on it so that was a great feeling when it was finally complete.

OK, I know this isn’t really the answer you were looking for, but I think the most fun I had was using Little Big Planet to build mechanical logic gates and then using them to make tiny, simple adding computers on my Playstation.

At work, though, I probably got the most from building a control system that helps to get our super-conducting cavities (they are part of a particle accelerator that actually push the electrons around the ring) ready to run. Not hugely glamorous, but I had to teach myself quite a lot to make it work and it protects £1,000,000 worth of equipment!

As a uni project a small group of us built a “can-sat”, literally a little satellite that fits into a coke can. It could log temperature, pressure, and even had a little GPS receiver, and a little antenna that could send the data to a laptop sitting next to it. We did a few things wrong and it didn’t work perfectly in the end, and it definitely didn’t fly any higher than we could throw it, but it was loads of fun.
